Like Donny and Marie Osmond, Calvin Harris straddles two worlds. He's a little bit pop, a little bit EDM, and he might be the exemplary artist of 2012. His third album has all the drops and whooshes and buzzing synths that festival ravers crave; unlike most of its peers, it bristles with genuinely memorable hooks and benefits from vivid performances from Kelis, Rihanna, Florence Welch and other mega-stars. In between the obvious hits, Harris shows his versatility with grinding acid interludes and a laid-back funk miniature. Pop-dance fusions don't come more effortless than this.
